Chapter Eleven

Lemar stepped into the club and took a seat at the bar, making no effort to disguise his foul mood. It had been a shitty couple of days, beginning with the deal with Loke going bad. Finding out that that punk ass nigga was wearing a wire could have spared him some serious jail time, but still, it was fucked up that the deal didn’t go down. It meant no money. And he needed money.

On top of every damn thing else, Maliyah was acting stupid. Starting with that fool trying to rape her on that off-site dance, and now she was supposedly staying at her friend’s Laronda’s house. Everything was falling apart.

From behind he heard somebody familiar laughing his ass off. He turned and spotted the source of the drunken laugh. Loke.

Lemar turned away, figuring it’d be best to leave his silly ass alone. But then the laughter got louder and louder, landing right behind him.

“What’s up, brother!” Loke said, taking a seat next to him Shit.

Lemar said nothing, kept his gaze away from Loke, nodded the bartender over. “Give me a gin and tonic,” he growled, his fowl mood getting fouler.

“Make that two,” Loke yelled. “On me.”

Lemar nodded a silent ‘thank you,’ but remained silent and distance.

“Look dog,” Loke said, leaning over to him. “I feel bad about that shit that happened the other day.”

“Just let it go, brother. We aight now.”

“No, no,” Loke said, laughing now. Like the two were buddies or something. “That was fucked up. But I was in a tight squeeze. The po-po was on my ass, ready to send me away. I had to do something.”

Lemar turned to him slowly. “I said let it go.”

Loke raised his hands in a comic ‘surrender.’ A few of his boys crept up to him. They were also in playful moods. Lemar was the only with a dark cloud above him.

“Hey, y’all remember Lemar from the other day?” he said. “Remember that shit?” he yelled, nearly stumbling his drunk ass off the stool.

Everybody laughed. But not Lemar. He fumed, staring at the Budweiser sign over the bar. Nothing to add to the conversation.

“But naw, this is my man!” Loke yelled. “And his lady is fine as fuck.”

Lemar turned slowly, eyes red as an apple, lips coiled into a tight scowl.

“Her name’s Maliyah and maaaan, y’all ought to’ see how she shakes that ass!”

The bartender sat the drinks before the two men. Loke tossed the man a ten, took a drink. But Lemar didn’t budge. His heated gaze stayed locked on Loke.

“I’m serious!” Loke went on. “When she’s goes to twerkin’ that ass, my shit is all like boiiing!” He demonstrated a hard cock with his arm. His boys nearly tumbled to the floor in laughter.

Lemar kept staring. No words.

“This nigga’ here must be strong as hell to deal with all those dudes drooling over his lady. Especially knowing all the shit that goes down in the back room!”

Lemar stood, pressed his face inches from Loke’s. A silence feel over Loke’s boys.
